PART II: AFTER THE SEALING OF THE BLACK MAGE
Chapter 12: The Noblesse
A traveler arrived in Ereve in order to become a Cygnus Knight and learned about the Noblesse from an elder of Ereve.
During the Ancient War, Shinsoo had protected many innocents from the chaos of the gods. After the end of the war, Maple World experienced a brief time of peace before humans began waging more wars in order to expand their territories. As Shinsoo had lost much of her power while protecting the weak, a small group of people whom she had saved remained at her side and learned from her teachings.
These heroes - bound by ideology, not bloodline - became known as the Noblesse, who had protected the innocent for ages until they had gone extinct. The traveler realized that their distant ancestors had been part of the Noblesse, and so they decided to carry on their legacy.
After becoming a Cygnus Knight, they were dispatched to Victoria Island in order to investigate the actions of Francis the Puppeteer. While fighting him, they learned that Francis had been dispatched by the Black Wings to harvest energy by using his puppets to influence the monsters of Victoria Island and take over every town.
They reported back to Neinheart, who dispatched them to Edelstein alongside 10 Boogies in order to investigate why the Black Wings wanted so much energy. During their mission, they found Black Wings propaganda denouncing Cygnus and her Knights as villains. They learned that the entire town hated the Cygnus Knights for betraying the Resistance, which 10 Boogies suspected was why the Resistance had stopped responding to all Cygnus Knight communication.
While investigating the Black Wing, the Knight met with the Resistance leaders and learned that it was their belief that the Cygnus Knights who had cut off all communication. Though the Resistance refused to help, the Knight continued investigating and soon rescued a group of local children, earning the Resistance’s grudging gratitude. Later on, Claudine began investigating the Knight's claim and came to realize that the Black Wings had been intercepting communication between the Cygnus Knights and the Resistance.
The Knight entered the Verne Mine and overheard Baroq and Francis speaking about how ‘the master’ had grown impatient with Gelimer for delaying ‘the resurrection’, and that she had been angry with Baroq for failing to obtain the Seal Stone of Ereve. The Knight was then caught by the pair, though they were rescued by the Resistance, who saved them in order to pay them back for saving the children.
Though Claudine told them that the Black Wings were funneling energy into the Verne Mine and searching for the Seal Stones, she emphasized that the Resistance would never trust the Cygnus Knights and told them to go back home.
Soon after, Neinheart sent the Knight on a mission to obtain a book from Helios Library, though they found that the Resistance had obtained it first. While they argued over the book, the Black Wings arrived, forcing the Knight and the Resistance to work together to defeat them. Claudine then reluctantly agreed to give the book to the Knight, admitting that they had earned her respect through their actions.
The Knight brought the book back to Neinheart, who explained that the book was a research journal that contained information about the Ancient Gods and their powers.
After the Knight told Cygnus about their experience with the Resistance, Cygnus expressed her belief that reconciliation between their two groups was still possible.
