Chapter 2: The Shadow War

• Around 300 years ago, a mysterious war broke out in Maple World. Though nearly all details about its origins and history remained shrouded in mystery, it was rumored that Lotus, whose spirit was capable of leaving his comatose body and possessing others, may have been the cause. A tome called the Book of Ancient, filled with powerful forbidden spells, was used as a weapon during the course of the war.

• After the Ancient War eons ago, those whom Shinsoo had protected formed the Noblesse in order to carry out her will and protect the weak. For ages, the Noblesse had fought to defend Maple World, though many had been killed when Orchid and Lotus attacked Ereve centuries ago.

• During the war from 300 years ago, the Noblesse fought alongside several others, such as Athena Pierce, in order to bring an end to the conflict. Alongside them were many Explorers, including five legendary Explorers:

  • Sayram, the father of all warriors, who had mastered the ways of the Hero, Paladin, and Dark Knight

  • Aurelia, a sorceress of renowned beauty

  • Three other comrades of Sayram and Aurelia: Lira the bowman, Kalix the thief, and Draken the pirate.

• The legendary Explorers and the Noblesse fought against a mysterious, unknown enemy throughout the war, with a climactic battle taking place at an unknown fortress that resulted in heavy casualties, including Lira, Kalix, and Draken. Despite this battle, the enemy continued to reignite the flames of war, with Sayram and Aurelia sacrificing their lives to put an end to the battle.

• Along with the Explorers, many Noblesse fell in battle during the war, bringing about their complete extinction. Over the next few centuries, few people would remember that such a war had even occurred. Though the Noblesse had gone extinct, their ideals would be passed down over generations through their descendants, thus keeping a spark of their memory alive.

• A powerful wizard in El Nath, Alcaster, had been born shortly before the start of the war, making him one of the few in the present day who had personally lived through the conflict. Alcaster was the apprentice of Aurelia, who had taught him everything she knew, leaving him with her research notes and diary in Orbis Tower.
