PART I: BEFORE THE SEALING OF THE BLACK MAGE

Chapter 2: The World of Grandis

  • Grandis was one of the three worlds created by the Overseers, separated from Maple World and Tynerum by a dimensional barrier. Grandis was a much different place from Maple World, with one year on Grandis being equal to ten years on Maple World. Unlike the sole planet of Maple World, Grandis was a planetary system composed of the planet Grandis and thirteen moons, of which seven are currently known: Cheong-woon, Narin, Ristonia, Savage Terminal, Verdel, Vulpes, and an unnamed moon that hosts the cities of Heliseum and Pantheon.

  • Grandis was home to many races, but the three largest were the Flora, the Nova, and the Anima. The Flora were the largest and most technologically advanced race, using their mastery over mytocrystals to cast powerful magic. The Flora had a caste system, with the God-King on top, followed by the Gods, the Priests, and the powerless commoners.

  • The son of the last God-King, Gerand Darmoor, was the Prince of the Flora. Despite his position, he grew disillusioned by the state of life, believing that most living beings were selfish, dragging others down in order to protect their own 'worthless' lives. Hoping to see the world from a different perspective, Darmoor aspired to become the Transcendent of Life, believing that it would give him an enlightened viewpoint.

  • To this end, Darmoor planned to break the balance of life on Grandis, knowing that it would result in his awakening as the Transcendent of Life. In order to do so, Darmoor secretly instilled an unknown illness into his father, the God-King, which gradually eroded his sanity. As a result of losing his mind, the God-King was transformed from a kind man into a belligerent tyrant who sought to dominate the other races.

  • A faction of peaceful Flora opposed him, but when it was revealed that they had plans to upend the caste system by sharing power with the commoners, they were accused of treason. With their wings torn out, they became known as the Verdant Flora, while the ruling faction became known as the High Flora.

  • In exile, Verdant Flora regained their magic when their leader, the God of the Verdant Flora, created mechanical wings for them. He also created a powerful relic called the Elder Crystal, on which he imprinted his personality and powers.
